Under-18s Seal Impressive Comeback Win

Everton extended their unbeaten league run with an impressive come-from-behind 2-1 win away to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday morning.

Leighton Baines’ men came into the contest having avoided defeat in each of their last five league outings, however, that run was threatened minutes into the game when Blackburn’s Tom Atcheson fired past Eail Hanbury to hand the home side the lead.

Everton responded well though and were good value for their equaliser which came just before half-time when Jacob Beaumont-Clark teed up Isaac Heath to grab his first league goal of the campaign.

Neither side was able to take the initiative in a competitive second half that looked to be heading towards a draw. But then with just 10 minutes remaining, substitute Troy Smikle-James latched onto Jenson Metcalfe’s ball to fire home the game’s decisive goal.

The victory sees the young Toffees climb up to sixth in the Premier League U18 North table, with three games in hand on Nottingham Forest in fifth.

Everton return to action Tuesday 21 February when they welcome Middlesbrough to Finch Farm (12.30pm GMT kick-off).
