Everton Exit Women's FA Cup

Everton's Women's FA Cup campaign ended on Sunday with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City.

Jade Pennock scored the decisive goal 61 minutes into the contest with a first-time finish into the bottom right corner.

It was a frustrating afternoon at Walton Hall Park for Brian Sorensen's side who were unable to continue their winning start to 2023.

The Blues dominated the opening 45 with Aggie Beever-Jones providing the brightest spark in attack.

The young forward enjoyed several opportunities on goal but came closest to putting Everton ahead on 35 minutes.

After a promising run that won the 19-year-old a free kick on the edge of the box, she stepped up and placed the ball towards the bottom right corner. However, Lucy Thomas matched it with a strong save.

The killer blow for the hosts came 16 minutes into the second half.

Birmingham moved the ball quickly around Everton's backline and found Pennock inside the box, who struck the ball powerfully into the far corner past Courtney Brosnan.

Everton return to action next weekend with a trip to face Manchester United in the Women's Super League.
