WOMEN'S TEAM

Snoeijs & Gio On Goals And 'Deserved' Victory

It proved to be a special evening for both Katja Snoeijs and Gio on Wednesday and they each netted their first Barclays Women's Super League Goals in the 3-0 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Snoeijs opened the scoring inside ten minutes when she tapped home an exquisite cross from Nico Sorensen. Jess Park extended the Blues' advantage before half-time, grabbing her fourth Everton goal of the season.

Gio then came off the bench to cap off her own impressive cameo display by smashing home a half-volley in second half stoppage time.

The win means Everton head into the Christmas break sixth in the WSL table after leapfrogging Wednesday's opponents and Aston Villa.

"I'm very happy," Snoeijs told evertontv post-match.

"I think it was an important goal, early in the game, and my first, so that's always good."

The Dutch forward was keen to praise goal provider Sorensen who put in another strong performance following her return from injury last month.

"Her level is really high, especially coming back from an injury like that," she said.

"It's very impressive how she's been in training sessions and even in games. It's almost like she hasn't been out for, what, 14 months? It's crazy."

Teammate Gio has had to tussle with injury setbacks of her own in recent months, meaning game time has often been carefully managed by Brian Sorensen and his staff.

The on-loan Arsenal winger has still yet to make her first competitive start for the Toffees, but Wednesday's goal was just reward for another sharp display from the bench.

"It was an incredible feeling," admitted the 19-year-old when discussing her goal.

"It's been a hard couple of months but finally, I get to score so I am really excited about that.

"I feel like being an attacker means you always want to score, but if I get an assist and help the team out then I am perfectly fine with that."

The Blues are set to play one final game of this calendar year as they face Durham on Saturday in the Continental League Cup. They'll then have a break before returning to league action in the new year.

"After the last couple of games, against really top teams, we put in good performances but without getting the results," said Snoeijs.

"Now we have both, so that's really good to have got the three points before Christmas."

Gio added: "I feel like we definitely deserved this result, now we're ready to start fresh when we come back and get going again."
