Under-18s Seal Mini-Derby Victory

Everton secured the bragging rights on Saturday morning as Leighton Baines’ young blues beat Liverpool 2-1 at Finch Farm.

In what was a fiercely contested mini-derby, Martin Sherif opened the scoring for the hosts seven minutes before half-time when he slotted home a great pass from Sam Coughlan.

The Blues were well worth their lead and forced Liverpool goalkeeper Luke Hewitson into several impressive saves throughout the first half.

The second half was just as hotly contested, with both teams exchanging chances.

Francis Gyimah went closet for the visitors when he hit the woodwork just past the hour mark.

Everton put the result beyond doubt though late in the second period when a fast break led to Coby Ebere lashing home a powerful second for Baines’ side.

Kyle Kelly scored a late consolation goal for Liverpool, but it proved too little too late as the visitors were sent home empty-handed.
