Pickford Earns Clean Sheet In USA Stalemate

Jordan Pickford helped to secure a point for England as they drew 0-0 with the USA in a tense encounter in Group B.

Gareth Southgate's side struggled to match their incredible performance against Iran, in a display similar to their second outing in their last major tournament when they were held to a goalless draw against Scotland.

They'll be hoping that feeling of déjà vu continues this winter with a point maintaining their position at top of the group heading into next week's qualification decider against the Welsh.

It was the Everton goalkeeper’s first clean sheet of this year’s finals and 22nd in an England shirt in what was a relatively quiet evening for the Englishman.

While the Americans had their opportunities in front of goal, only one reached on target that was calmly collected by Pickford in the opening half hour.

Everton teammate Conor Coady was an unused substitute.

The fate of the group will be decided on Tuesday (GMT 7pm) when Pickford, Coady and their England teammates face Wales at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Qatar.

Regular updates on how the Everton players fare in their respective World Cup fixtures will be provided on evertonfc.com and our social media channels.
