Gana's Senegal Off The Mark In World Cup

Idrissa Gana Gueye played the full match to help Senegal record an impressive 3-1 victory over Qatar in the World Cup.

Aliou Cissé's side bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands in their opening game of the competition, as goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng ensured the Lions of Teranga took all three points from their clash with the host nation.

Gana once again played a pivotal role in the heart of Senegal's midfield to ensure Senegal became the first African nation to record a win at this year's World Cup.

Next up for Gana is a clash with Ecuador on Tuesday 29 November (3pm), with qualification in Group A still to be decided.

Gana, who now has two more World Cup appearances than any other Senegal player in history (30), will become the nation's joint most-capped player if he features against Ecuador, equalling Henri Camara's record of 99 caps.
