Cannon's First-Team Promise

Everton striker Tom Cannon insists his hard work will not relent as he continues his bid to earn a place in Frank Lampard's First-Team plans.

The Aintree-born teenager, who joined the Club at the age of 10, netted his maiden senior goal for the Blues in the 5-1 demolition of Western Sydney Wanderers at the CommBank Stadium on Wednesday.

That strike represents another landmark in what Cannon hopes to be a breakthrough season, having made his first senior appearance and Premier League debut in the week prior to the domestic break for the World Cup.

Discussing his goal in Australia with evertontv, Cannon said: "It was an unreal feeling, to say the least.

"It's been a mad couple of weeks with my first appearances and then the tour but I've just kept my head down and worked and I was just dying to get on the pitch.

"Then, obviously I did and I scored within a couple of minutes, so it's a good feeling.

"It's important [that I stake my claim for a place in the team]. I just need to keep listening to the people around me, keep listening to the gaffer and taking on all the advice I can get.

"I'll keep working hard."

Everton ended their final Sydney Super Cup game with seven players who had been through the Club's Academy on the pitch.

And, while Anthony Gordon - now an integral member of Lampard's side - netted a hat-trick and Cannon registered on the scoresheet, fellow youngsters Isaac Price and Stanley Mills, in particular, also impressed.

They were joined on the pitch by defenders Reece Welch and Joe Anderson, and midfielder Seb Quirk.

Cannon believes the mid-season trip has been particularly beneficial to the squad's youngsters and says while the level of support shown Down Under was fully appreciated, it also came as no surprise.

"It just shows how big the Club is," he added.

"There are Everton fans everywhere you go around the world. We've seen and heard them in the stadiums and met some at a few events, so it's been a really good trip for us."
