Gordon Nets Hat-Trick In Thumping Blues Win

Everton rounded off a successful mid-season trip to Australia with an impressive display and emphatic 5-1 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in the Sydney Super Cup.

The Blues displayed attacking intent throughout the contest with their A-League opponents and goals from Neal Maupay and Anthony Gordon - either side of a goal from nothing by Ramy Najjarine - was enough to secure a half-time lead at the CommBank Stadium.

Gordon completed a hat-trick and Tom Cannon notched his first senior goal for the Club in the second half to seal a thoroughly-deserved win.

Frank Lampard opted for a 4-3-3 formation, with Academy graduate Isaac Price handed a second consecutive start after being highlighted by the manager as "the best player on the pitch" against Celtic three days earlier.

Operating in a deeper midfield role, Price once again caught the eye with quality and positivity in possession, while also displaying the necessary alertness to deal with any oncoming traffic.

Everton came flying out of the blocks in Parramatta and had a goal ruled out for offside when Gordon prodded home following Dwight McNeil's corner.

Lampard's side would not have to wait much longer for their reward, though, as Maupay expertly headed home Nathan Patterson's chipped cross from the right after a slick passage of play across the pitch.

Maupay nearly notched his second of the evening less than 60 seconds later, when Demarai Gray burst down the left channel and cut the ball back to the Frenchman, who kissed the outside of the post with a curling effort from inside the penalty area.

The Toffees were dealt a shock on 18 minutes, when, with their first attempt on goal of the evening, Wanderers levelled. Najjarine opening up a yard of space before firing a precise left-footed drive across Begovic and into the corner of the net.

LAMPARD ON MANY POSITIVES FROM AUSTRALIA TOUR

Everton boss praises young talents, attacking play and fans after confidence-boosting win in Sydney.

Everton regained the upper hand following the setback but Wanderers then went close to nudging in front when a Tomislav Mrčela struck the woodwork with an effort following a long diagonal free-kick.

Less than 60 seconds later, the hosts were behind.

There was more excellent build-up play before Gray opened up the Wanderers' defence with a sublime reverse pass to Doucoure. The Mali international then picked out a low cross from the left side of the penalty area, allowing Gordon to apply a clever flicked finish past the goalkeeper.

Former Newcastle United midfielder Romain Amalfitano went close to levelling proceedings five minutes after the half-time interval but his stunning 30-yard volley, thankfully, dipped only enough to cannon off the crossbar and away to safety.

Gordon then opened up a two-goal cushion by starting and finishing a sweeping team move.

After a charging run down the right wing, he pulled the ball back for Gray and when the winger's shot was parried, Gordon was on the spot to convert the rebound.

Youngsters Tom Cannon and Stanley Mills were introduced off the bench following that strike and the pair - along with fellow teenager Price - combined to produce Everton's fourth goal.

Price first found Mills, whose shot was fumbled by the goalkeeper, allowing Cannon to tap in the simplest of finishes.

Gordon then completed his first senior hat-trick in the final minute, checking back on to his right foot on the left side of the penalty area before dispatching a low finish into the far corner.

Everton now head back to Merseyside and will work towards the Premier League visit of Wolves on Boxing Day (3pm).
