Everton Celebrates National Living Wage Week

As a principal partner of the Living Wage movement, Everton is proud to celebrate National Living Wage Week.

Running from Monday 14-Friday 18 November, the campaign raises awareness of the Living Wage Foundation and its objective to ensure that a hard day’s work is recognised with a fair day’s pay.

Everton became a principal partner of the Living Wage Foundation in 2016, meaning that all Everton and Everton in the Community staff are paid at least the independently calculated real living wage rate.

In September 2022, this rose to £10.90 per hour for people working across the United Kingdom and £11.95 for those living in London.

This is higher than the Government minimum wage of £9.50 per hour across the whole of the UK, although that rate could rise when the Chancellor announces his Autumn statement later this week.

Research from the Living Wage Foundation suggests that if one in four more workers in the Liverpool City Region who are in receipt of the national minimum wage were to instead be paid the real living wage, it would provide a £10million boost to the local economy.

With that in mind, Everton is encouraging other businesses in the area and wider North West region to follow its lead and become accredited Living Wage employers.

Clare Kearney, Director of People Engagement at Everton, said: “The Club is committed to ensuring that all staff feel valued and respected when they become part of the Everton family, and that is why we believe in the real Living Wage.

“The foundation’s research illustrates its potential impact - not only to individuals but our region as a whole. As we contend with the cost-of-living crisis, this has never been more important.

“We applaud the Living Wage Foundation for their relentless work in promoting a fair day’s pay and would encourage other organisations to consider becoming an accredited Living Wage employer.”

At the time of signing the pledge in 2016, Everton became only the second Premier League club to pay the real living wage to its employees.

There are now six top-flight clubs amongst the 11,582 accredited employers in the UK.
