Lampard's Verdict On Bournemouth Defeat

Read the key points from Frank Lampard's post-match press conference after Everton's 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth below...

On Everton’s display…

It was a poor performance and a poor result. It’s very clear, it’s not good enough for Everton.

It was a mistake for our first goal. The second goal shouldn’t have stood. A defender goes down with a head injury and the game should stop. The referee got that one wrong, but it’s not one to hang on – our reaction after that wasn’t right – but it is difficult to come back in an away game from 2-0 down. It gives the fans and opposition a lot of impetus. On our part, it wasn’t good enough.

On his team going over to the travelling Evertonians at the end of the game…

The fans have a right to be disappointed. They have come down here twice this week and seen poor performances. Before that, we were doing okay, and then they see performances they don’t like. When they’re happy after the Palace win and we’re pleased when they give us a welcome… We have to understand they can voice their opinions – and their opinions were right today.

I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding – Alex [Iwobi] had some friends he was concerned about up at the front – there was nothing in that.

The players, albeit the performance wasn’t good enough, they’re not bad lads. They’re disappointed. It was important the players went over to the fans. You have to be humble about the fact the performance wasn’t good enough. We know it’s not a moment for them to clap and cheer – we’ve had those moments at other times – but it’s a moment to go over and [recognise] it wasn’t good enough.

On whether Anthony Gordon could have been introduced earlier…

He’s carrying an injury. He’s broken his hand. He played here on Tuesday with a broken hand. He’s not in prime condition. If he was, he would possibly have come on earlier.

COADY: THAT'S NOWHERE NEAR GOOD ENOUGH FROM PLAYERS

Centre-back insists Everton squad must take full responsibility after 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

On his team’s drop-off in performance compared to the win over Crystal Palace three weeks ago…

It’s a lack of consistency, in simple terms. We have to train consistently at a high level, even when you’ve won a game and you think you might be on top of the world for a minute. If any player wants to come off [that level] or think everything’s fine, the Premier League can kick you. The Premier League has kicked us since that win over Palace. We played alright against Leicester, we could have won that game in different circumstances, we drew at Fulham, but these two games [against Bournemouth] are not good enough.

On Everton lacking intensity…

If you have intensity – like we had against Palace – then generally that aligns itself to better results. If you’re not going to have intensity in your game, then that’s not enough. That one is on the players. I know I have to take responsibility, but there’s not a moment where I ask for less intensity. It’s actually the opposite and the players didn’t deliver that today.
