Everton Reveals Fan-Led Events For Sydney Super Cup

Everton Supporters' Club Australia (ESCA) have been working alongside the Club’s Fan Engagement team to deliver a range of supporter-led events to celebrate the Blues’ visit to Sydney later this month.

Frank Lampard’s side will travel Down Under to play Scottish reigning champions Glasgow Celtic (Sunday 20 November) and Western Sydney Wanderers (Wednesday 23 November) as part of the inaugural Sydney Super Cup.

With a large contingent of Blues expected to make the journey, supporters from across Australia have been working with the Club to create a programme of events that will offer a special welcome for fans.

Everton’s First-Team squad will hold an open training session at Accor Stadium on Friday 18 November (6.30pm AEDT). The session will allow supporters to see the Blues’ stars put through their paces some 48 hours prior to their clash with Celtic at the same venue. No tickets are required for the free training event, which is open to fans of all ages.

On Saturday 19 November supporters will have the opportunity of a lifetime by joining other Blues for a cruise around the famous Sydney Harbour. The two-hour cruise will take in some of Australia’s most recognised sights, sailing past the Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Opera House as well as offering unbeatable views of the Sydney skyline. The Everton-themed cruise will also feature a Q&A with Everton legends, music and access to a cash bar. Organised by Evertonians, for Evertonians, the two chartered cruises are available at a special price of $69 AUD (around £40) and will depart from Commissioner’s Steps on Circular Quay at 12pm and 2pm (AEDT). Both cruises are anticipated to sell-out, supporters are advised to click here and book early to avoid disappointment.

The evening before Everton’s opening Sydney Super Cup fixture with Celtic, ESCA will host a special welcome for all Blues at The Argyle (11 Argyle Street). Evertonians are encouraged to meet from 5pm (AEDT) on Saturday evening (19 November) at the well-known pub which is conveniently located in The Rocks, on Sydney Harbour for any Blues coming off the cruise.

Aurora Hotel will be the pre- and post-match meeting place for Evertonians before and after the Club’s first game against Celtic on 20 November. Blues can meet at the bar on Elizabeth Street in Surrey Hills for breakfast or brunch from 10am (AEDT) with the bar welcoming Blues back from the game from 5pm onwards.

The Aurora Hotel is conveniently located opposite Central Station, which may be the station some fans will use to get the train to the match. Evertonians will be able to catch a special ‘Everton Train’ from platforms 4-7 at Central Station direct to the Accor Stadium. The trains will run every 15 minutes between 12.30pm and 2pm and will be lit blue in honour of Evertonians for the occasion.

Supporters are reminded to leave plenty of time to get from Aurora Bar to Accor Stadium especially if they want to catch team warm-ups and on-field entertainment at 2pm (AEDT) and kick-off at 2.45pm (AEDT).

Supporters with a match ticket for both of Everton’s Sydney Super Cup fixtures are reminded that match tickets can be used for free train travel to and from the respective stadiums on matchday.

The World Cup break has allowed Everton to visit Australia for the first time since 2010 and Aussie Blues have been keen to ensure their English counterparts have the chance to cheer on the Three Lions.

On Monday 21 November (10pm AEDT) supporters are invited to Cheers Sports Bar & Grill (561 George St) to not only watch England’s opening group stage match against Iran but also a special Q&A with Club legends Gary Stevens and Ian Snodin. As well as talking all things Everton, Gary Stevens will talk about his time playing for England in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups facing Maradona and what Gazza was up to in camp. Tickets for the event will be limited with further details released in due course.

Western Sydney Wanderers are the local opposition for Everton’s final fixture of the Sydney Super Cup on Wednesday 23 November (kick-off 7.45pm AEDT). Ahead of the game Everton’s Australian fans have secured The Commercial Hotel (2 Hassall St Parramata) is just a short stroll from CommBank Stadium and supporters are encouraged to gather from 4pm (AEDT) with the chance to win signed Everton merchandise.

John Kelly, chair of the ESCA (Everton Supporters’ Club Australia), said: “We’re all really excited that Everton is coming to Australia. Our supporters’ club has members right across the country and we have been meeting up with the Club to try and deliver a series of events that we think Blues will enjoy.

"We can’t wait to welcome fans from around the world to Sydney. I’d encourage anyone who is coming into town to come along to any of our events, consume everything Everton with fellow Blues and then hopefully cheer on the team against Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers.”
