What The Papers Say - 3 October

Reports over the weekend provide an update on the rumoured takeover bid for Everton Football Club.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has stated that the instability of the financial market has complicated discussions surrounding a potential takeover from Maciek Kaminski.

Also, the level of capital required to fund the Club’s new stadium could cause issues.

Nevertheless, positive talks appear to continue, according to Jacobs, who wrote on his Twitter account: "Sources familiar with discussions say there is more due diligence required, including on liabilities and losses. But there has certainly been positive talks this month, which is progress compared to over the summer when Farhad Moshiri felt a deal was dead".

In other news, media outlets react to Everton's win on the road on Saturday as the Blues beat Southampton 2-1.

While it may still be early in the season, The Guardian believes Frank Lampard could be on the journey to something special with the Toffees.

“A few minutes after the final whistle Frank Lampard looked into a packed away end, licking his lips, all smiles at the sight of Everton supporters basking in successive victories and a rare away win," Ben Fisher wrote.

"Amadou Onana and a topless Idrissa Gueye bounced in tandem with the fans belting out Spirit of the Blues, joyously dancing along in celebration.

“It is too early to conclude that Lampard has revived Everton but after six league games unbeaten it at least feels he is on to something."

Tom Prentki of The Telegraph shared the same opinion, as he wrote: "This was only Lampard’s second league win of the season but there is a sense that things are moving in the right direction under his stewardship of the Club."
