Thursday’s edition of the Daily Mail reports England boss Gareth Southgate will be paying “close attention” to Anthony Gordon’s performances over the coming weeks, with the Everton forward said to be in contention for a spot in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad.

The paper claims Southgate has been impressed by Gordon’s consistently strong displays for Everton and England Under-21s.

Quotes from Gordon are included in the publication, with the winger setting out his desire to make the step up to the senior England side.

“I understand the squad is so good at the minute that it's going to be really tough to get in,” he said.

“I'm 100 per cent focused on making the World Cup squad. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. It's out of my control. But I'll definitely give it my best try.”

Several outlets feature the news Everton full-back Nathan Patterson is expected to be out for around four to five weeks with an ankle injury.

The 20-year-old sustained the injury during Scotland’s Nations League win over Ukraine last Wednesday.

The Liverpool Echo carries quotes from Everton legend Trevor Steven, who has revealed his optimism about the Club’s future under boss Frank Lampard.

He said: “I think there’s a feeling and an emotion that’s running through the Club now that I haven’t seen for a long, long time.

“The fans’ love for the club runs so deep and we’ve now got a manager who is shoulder to shoulder with them.

“I’m looking at the performances and I’m seeing a believable change. We’ve built some stability and some of the acquisitions have been excellent.”
