Everton picked up their first points of the season with a stunning Merseyside Derby victory over Liverpool at Anfield, with goals from Megan Finnigan, Jess Park and Hanna Bennison securing a 3-0 victory.

A crowd of 27, 574 was a new Barclays Women's Super League record for Liverpool, but a stunning performance from the Toffees saw them take the game away from their rivals.

This was just the third time these two sides have faced each other at Anfield, and with the Blues winning the previous two, they went about making that three in a row with a quick start.

Gabby George forced Laws into an early save, getting on the end of a well-worked set-piece routine before seeing her header tipped over.

Then, Megan Finnigan tested Rachael Laws from distance, and from the following corner Everton took the lead.

Katrine Veje’s corner was flicked on inadvertently by Taylor Hinds, picking out the aforementioned Finnigan to head home.

Brian Sorensen’s side used the momentum and continued to inflict early pressure upon the Liverpool defence, Veje’s low drive being tipped round the post by Laws.

Soon after, that advantage was doubled and in some style. Park was played through by Natalie Bjorn, and the Manchester City loanee showed tremendous composure to round Laws and neatly slot home.

Liverpool then nearly reduced the deficit through Katie Stengel, but the forward’s curling effort narrowly evaded the far post.

Moments before half-time, Katja Snoeijs came agonisingly close to adding a third. Izzy Christiansen teased one across the six-yard-box, but the Dutch forward couldn’t quite reach it.

The Toffees carried that momentum into the second half and began it in similar vein. Snoeijs had two efforts in quick succession that were well-saved by Laws.

Both Hanna Bennison and Gio Quieroz Costa were introduced and brought an injection of energy into the game and a third for the visitors.

Gio's determination to win possession in the final third allowed Park to gain possession and slip in Bennison at the far post.

The Swede delivered a composed finish into the far corner in front of the away end who had been brilliant throughout the contest.

A brilliant result for Brian Sorensen's side who will look to carry their momentum into their first home game of the season as Leicester City make the journey to Walton Hall Park on Thursday evening.
