Maupay Eyes More Magic Moments In Blue

Striker was matchwinner in West Ham victory.

Neal Maupay has set out his hunger to build on his superb match-winning strike against West Ham United on Sunday, as he revealed how support from his Everton teammates has helped him quickly feel at home with the Blues.

Maupay’s 53rd-minute goal proved the difference in a hard-fought contest with the Hammers at Goodison Park.

The Frenchman – whose work-rate, movement and link-up play were praised by boss Frank Lampard – insisted the victory was merited following a tireless collective effort from the team.

Maupay is convinced he will further improve as he gains optimum fitness and believes the win can ignite Everton’s season.

“It means a lot to score, but the three points are the main thing for us,” he said.

“We’ve been playing well and it was just a matter of time. I'm happy for the win and the goal and hopefully we can build on it.

“This win had been coming. We work hard every day we had a very good week of training. I think we deserved it.

“I know my job and I have to score. That’s why they brought me in. I needed that goal as I haven’t played much last month.

“It was only my second game of the season. I’m here to help.

“Against Liverpool, when I didn’t score, my teammates all told me, ‘You played well, you gave everything’. Today, I got the rewards.”

LAMPARD'S VERDICT ON WEST HAM VICTORY

Boss salutes Maupay finish, fans' impact, and steady backline.

Maupay showcased his goalscoring instinct to devastating effect for his goal – expertly controlling Alex Iwobi’s driven pass before turning and shooting powerfully past Lukasz Fabianski.

“Always the first touch is the key [for this goal],” he said. “If you get that right, then you can have an easier finish.

“We’ve got very good players in midfield and the wings. I trust them to make the difference.

“I have to be there to finish and it was a great pass from Alex. I’m just happy for the team.”
