What The Papers Say - 16 September

A report in Friday’s edition of The Independent focuses on Everton’s progress under manager Frank Lampard.

An article from journalist Richard Jolly highlights the Blues’ smart summer transfer business and how the team’s recent performances show they have developed “more substance”.

Jolly also points to how the Club’s young players are thriving under Lampard.

He writes: “Several [young players] from Anthony Gordon to full-backs Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko, appear to be developing on his watch.

“Perhaps the most gifted of all, Amadou Onana, has shown the vast potential to indicate why Lampard made him his biggest buy.

"There are early signs that his eight signings will yield several successes and that a few judgement calls have been justified.”

The Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, features quotes from Onana who has revealed the area of Lampard’s game he admired most during the Everton manager’s playing days – and how he would like to follow his lead.

“If I could finish as good as he could, I'd be happy with that!” the Belgian said.

“It's something we talk about. He thinks that with my physical attributes I can score more and be more decisive."

The Echo also speculates Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be included in a matchday squad for the first time this season when Everton take on West Ham United at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The striker was pictured taking part in First-Team training at Finch Farm this week.

Everton boss Lampard is expected to provide a team news update when he holds his pre-match press conference at 1.30pm (BST) on Friday.
