Dwight McNeil has set out his ambition to thrill Evertonians with his creativity and direct, purposeful play, as he eyes a competitive Blues debut against Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday.

In an expansive interview – the full version of which you can read in the first edition of Official Everton Matchday Programme for the 2022/23 season – McNeil outlines why he believes Goodison provides an ideal stage for him to showcase breadth of exciting qualities.

McNeil is the cover star for the programme, which features a striking new design for the 2022/23 campaign. Saturday's edition is jam-packed with insights and features, including exclusive notes from boss Frank Lampard and captain Seamus Coleman.

Everton new-boy McNeil, who signed from Burnley last week, began his Toffees career in stunning fashion by scoring twice during a 28-minute substitute appearance in Friday’s Match for Peace against Dynamo Kyiv.

He is now intent on capping a dream start to life at Everton by helping the Blues kick off the Premier League season in style.

“I’ve just loved being at Everton so far, learning and being part of the Club,” McNeil said.

“My first experience at Goodison was special, coming on and scoring twice. 

“I am a direct runner with the ball. I like to get on the ball, cut inside and create chances for the team. I want to show that this season for the Club and the fans.

“We have Chelsea on Saturday and it’s a massive, massive game to start with. We want to get points on the board early on. 

“We know how good Chelsea can be, but I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m ready to go.”
