Weir Signs First Pro Deal

Defender Kenzie Weir has signed her first professional contract with Everton, agreeing a three-year deal until the end of June 2025.

The 18-year-old Academy graduate broke into the senior squad last season, making her debut in a win over Huddersfield Town in the Women’s FA Cup.

Now a part of Brian Sorensen’s First-Team squad, centre-back Weir says it’s “a dream come true” to become a professional footballer at Everton as she follows in the footsteps of her father, David, the former Everton captain.

“I am really happy,” Weir told evertontv. “It is a club I have been at for a while now and it is a club I love.

“My dad obviously played and captained the team, and it has been a club that I have grown up with.

“He helps me and he has got experience with the Club and how football works, but my whole family are so supportive.

“It has been a dream come true.”

Weir is one of several players who have returned to Finch Farm in recent weeks to begin work with boss Sorensen ahead of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season.

With an eagerness to impress, the young Scot hopes she can be handed more opportunities to represent Everton this season.

“Working with Brian (Sorensen) and the new staff is going to be my challenge this season,” she added.

“I love the way he is trying to get us to play and the way he goes about his day-to-day work. I am really enjoying it.

“I am still young so getting that First Team exposure is what I want.

“I would love to get a few more minutes than I did last season, but it is about trying to have an impact on the team, whichever way that is.”

Manager Sorensen is confident Weir will continue to develop with the Blues.

“Kenzie has a high potential,” he told evertonfc.com. “I’m looking forward to helping continue her development to a stage where she can play consistently for Everton.

WEIR REACTS TO FIRST PRO DEAL

Kenzie Weir agrees to three-year deal with the Club.

“That’s the long-term goal. In the short-term, it’s about getting her used to the tempo, our style of play and after pre-season we’ll look to do more coaching individually with her to sharpen her skillset even further.

“With her family background, she will have inherited a lot of qualities from her father which I imagine we will see down the road.

“Despite her age, she has a good physique for a defender, her mentality is excellent, and she has a fine technique to her game.

“We have a good plan in place. Now it’s up to us and Kenzie to execute it well.”
