Sørensen Extends Everton Stay

Nicoline Sørensen has agreed a one-year contract extension with Everton until the end of June 2023.

The 24-year-old Denmark international joined the Club in July 2020 and enjoyed a strong debut campaign, featuring in all 22 Women’s Super League matches.

Sørensen carried that momentum into the 2021/22 pre-season campaign but spent the majority of the competitive season on the sidelines after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament.

Ten months into her recovery, the forward says she is making steady progress and is eager to return to the pitch in Royal Blue.

“I’m delighted to stay here for another year,” the versatile Sørensen told evertontv.

“I feel like this is a new start for myself and the Club, and I’m excited to be a part of that.

SØRENSEN ON NEW EVERTON DEAL

Nicoline Sørensen agrees to a one-year contract extension with the Club.

“Hopefully it’s not too far away until I’m back on the pitch with the girls.”

Sorensen spoke of the challenge of dealing with her injury but is optimistic she can exceed the performance levels displayed in the summer of 2021.

“Pre-season last year was the time that I felt at my best,” she added.

“I felt confident and I was ready to smash the season.

“It wasn’t what I expected, it never comes at a good time.

“I take my recovery day-by-day. There are days where I’ve struggled, even my daily living has been challenged so much.

“I’m just appreciating all the progress we are making and now it’s about pushing myself to get back on the pitch.”

With an extensive rehabilitation programme from Everton’s medical team, the Dane described the incredible support she has received from her teammates, staff and Evertonians.

“I have felt their support throughout the whole journey,” Sørensen added.

“One of my fears when I got injured was that everyone would just forget me because I wasn’t playing or in the squad.

“The support I have felt from everyone in the Club and from the fans has been unbelievable.

“Every time someone wishes me good luck or wants to see me back on the pitch, it makes me really happy.”

Everton manager Brian Sørensen is optimistic the Everton number 14 will return to the field stronger than ever as she continues her recovery process at Finch Farm.

“Speaking to Nico, I’ve told her the Club is behind her, and we will wait until she’s ready to join us on the pitch,” the manager said.

“There’s no stress, to follow each step as it comes, and we won’t rush her back.

“It’s important as a club that we show a player support when they suffer a serious injury like Nico has.

“She was playing some of her best football in her career so far right before her injury.

“It’s now about getting her back to that level and then build from there as she’s still a young player who can improve.

“She’s one of those wingers who are rare to find, who is as good offensively as she is defensively.

“I’m sure she will come back even stronger and I’m really looking forward to working with her when that time comes.”
