Sevecke Extends Everton Stay

Rikke Sevecke has signed a one-year contract extension with Everton, keeping the defender at Walton Hall Park until the end of June 2023.

Dane Sevecke, who joined Everton in summer 2020, is currently with her national team at the England-hosted European Championship after winning a race against time to feature in the tournament.

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Denmark opened their campaign with a 4-0 defeat to Germany at Brentford's Community Stadium on Friday night.

She was a mainstay in her debut Everton campaign, missing only two matches, but suffered an injury-disrupted 2021/22.

Sevecke will link up with compatriot Brian Sorensen, the new Everton manager, when she reports to Finch Farm for pre-season.

“I am very happy and excited to continue my journey as an Evertonian for another year,” Sevecke told evertonfc.com.

“This is a historic club and I feel honoured to be part of it.

“I have played against Brian’s teams a lot and they are always incredibly competitive and difficult to beat.

“We have had some good conversations, I am very interested in his football philosophy and style of play and can’t wait to work with him.

“It is an exciting time to be an Everton player.”

Sevecke joined Everton from FC Fleury in France, where she had one season following spells with BSF and Brondby in her homeland.

The centre-back duly established herself as a key figure for Everton and featured in the delayed 2020 FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.

Sevecke additionally helped Everton achieve a top-five Barclays Women’s Super League finish.

Her second season began brightly and Sevecke was on target in a comfortable home win over Birmingham City.

She was hurt shortly after the turn of the year, however, ushering in a frustrating second half of the campaign.

Sevecke began her competitive return when Denmark opened their European Championship campaign against Germany at Brentford on Friday.

The Scandinavians also have fixtures against Finland and competition favourites Spain.

“I’m super thrilled to be back on the pitch and back with the national team and I am really looking forward to the Euros,” added Sevecke.

“I’m proud to be involved in this tournament and will gain a lot of valuable experience from it.

“It’s always special to play in a big competition and I can’t wait to get started.

“Hopefully, I can gain some momentum with my performances and hit the ground running when I return to Finch Farm.”
