What The Papers Say - 27 May

There is plenty of transfer speculation involving the Blues in Friday's newspapers.

In The Telegraph, it is rumoured Everton and West Ham United are both keen on signing Burnley's Maxwel Cornet this summer.

The 25-year-old winger is believed to have a release clause of £17.5million in his contract after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League.

Elsewhere, in the Daily Mail, it is claimed Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson and Burnley's James Tarkowski are "top of Everton's summer wishlist".

Johnson, a 21-year-old winger, scored 19 times from 50 appearances in 2021/22 and was last week named Championship Player of the Year.

The Wales international has 12 months remaining on his current contract at the City Ground - and the report claims the outcome of the Forest's Championship play-off final against Huddersfield Town could determine where Johnson will be playing his football next term.

Newcastle United, Leicester City and Brentford are also reportedly interested.

The same story links Everton with Tarkowski, who is set to be a free agent in July following the expiration of his contract with Burnley.

If the Toffees win the race for the centre-back's signature, it is reported Michael Keane could move on, with West Ham manager David Moyes a keen admirer.

A separate report in the Daily Mail suggests Richarlison is attracting interest from a number of clubs across the continent.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur are three of the clubs who are looking at the Brazilian - but, with two years remaining on his current deal, it is added Everton are under no immediate pressure to sell.

And finally, in the Northern Echo, Sunderland's Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman says the Black Cats will open talks with the Toffees this week over re-signing striker Nathan Broadhead.

The 24-year-old spent last campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light and excelled despite being hampered by injuries, scoring 13 goals in 27 appearances to help the club achieve promotion to the second tier after a four-year absence.

“We will have a conversation with Everton this week,” said Speakman. “To see where they are at with it and where we are at with it, and see if that’s aligned.

"We have to respect the fact that he is an Everton player. We have seen him as our player for the year, because we had to get the best out of him but now that the season is finished he unfortunately goes back to being an Everton player."
