Spirited Everton Equalise Twice In Thrilling Spurs Draw

Everton signed off from Walton Hall Park for the season in dramatic fashion as two late equalisers from Danielle Turner and Megan Finnigan were enough to secure a point in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

The noise was deafening at times as the Everton support came together to produce a brilliant atmosphere which was ultimately rewarded with a performance to be proud of.

It was a difficult start for Chris Roberts’ side as the Blues went behind after five minutes.

Evelina Summanen broke away from the Everton backline and played the ball into Asmita Ale who tapped home despite appeals for the linesman’s flag to be raised against Summanen.

Nevertheless, the Toffees stood firm and grew into the half as Toni Duggan and Anna Anvegård came agonisingly close to pulling one back.

At the other end of the pitch, Courtney Brosnan made her presence felt with a brilliant save to deny Rachel Williams a finish into the top right corner from close range.

TURNER & FINNIGAN REFLECT ON PULSATING FINISH TO SPURS DRAW

Goalscorers Danielle Turner and Megan Finnigan reflect on a hard-fought point in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

The Republic of Ireland international was called into action yet again in the second half as Rosella Ayana’s strike was diverted to the crossbar after a fantastic stop from the Everton ‘keeper.

Ultimately, it was the second half introduction of Kenza Dali and Turner who swung the fortunes into the hosts’ favour.

Traditionally a full-back, Turner produced a finish any centre-forward would be proud of as she met Dali’s excellent ball into the area and headed home an equaliser that the Blues most undoubtedly deserved.

Unfortunately, that hard work was soon undone in a matter of 20 seconds as Spurs soon regained the lead.

Substitute Jessica Naz burst down the right channel and played a low ball into Josie Green whose effort slid into the Everton net.

The Toffees weren’t done yet as four minutes were added, however, Finnigan only needed one.

Hanna Bennison swung the ball into the back post as the defender raced onto it, heading across goal and six minutes after their first equaliser, Everton were back level.

Hungry for more, the hosts continued to drive forward and mount pressure on Spurs who appeared stunned by the hosts’ response.

Despite their late heroics, the girls in blue had to settle for a point, but the emotion of the result felt even more significant.

It was an evening full of passion and belief, something the supporters have shown throughout this season and was epitomised in the final 10 minutes at Walton Hall Park.

The girls go again next weekend in their final match of the Barclays FA Women's Super League season when they travel to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday 8 May.
