Barker Strikes But Under-18s Held By Burnley

Owen Barker was on target for Everton Under-18s against Burnley at Finch Farm on Saturday but a late equaliser from the away side saw the points shared in the U18 Premier League (North) encounter.

Everton controlled the majority of the game and Barker's smart finish on 76 minutes looked to have earned Paul Tait's side a deserved victory.

The Blues then had a chance to double their advantage when Coby Ebere went through on goal and was desperately unfortunate to see his shot strike the inside of the post.

And there was to be a string in the tail for the Toffees when Burnley forward Will Couch netted an 88th-minute equaliser to snatch a point for the Clarets.

Everton Under-18s return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stoke City (6.30pm BST) for another league match.

Speaking to evertonfc.com, manager Tait said: "We dominated most of the game.

"In the first half, we just lacked that bit of creativity, but we were a lot better after the break in that sense.

"We scored a very good goal through Owen and we deserved that. I thought we would see out the game from then and we had a great chance to score again when Cobe hit the post.

"And then we got caught out late on trying to play out from the back. It was a good finish from the lad, to be fair.

"But it was good team performance on the whole and that’s the main positive we will take going into the Stoke game on Tuesday.

"It’s about picking up where we left off in terms of the performance levels and hopefully we can get the three points on this occasion."
