Everton Beaten By Arsenal

Everton fell to a 3-0 defeat upon their return to Walton Hall Park as Arsenal took all three points in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

It was the Blues' first outing in front of their home support in 39 days, with Evertonians gathering in their numbers as the hosts faced off against their title-chasing visitors.

Despite the scoreline, there were positives to take as Everton defended superbly across the 90 minutes, but ultimately just fell short.

Arsenal began on the front foot as the hosts did well to nullify their attacking threats.

It was a brilliant defensive effort from the Blues who more than deserved to head into the break level, however, Arsenal broke the deadlock after 43 minutes.

Leah Williamson played a long ball into the area which found Caitlin Foord. The Australian international took a touch before finishing into the far corner.

ROBERTS ON ARSENAL DEFEAT

Everton Women interim manager reflected on Sunday evening's defeat to Arsenal in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

Arsenal grew into the game in the second half as strong defensive effort was required to keep the Gunners at bay.

Centre back Gabby George made important blocks from Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema to deny Arsenal a second, and Sandy MacIver was alert to deny Stina Blackstenius.

With 67 minutes on the clock, Arsenal had their second.

Miedema found Beth Mead inside the area as the England international slotted past MacIver.

A third for the visitors followed eight minutes later.

Quick counter-attacking play from Arsenal resulted in Jordan Nobbs firing in a quick and powerful effort into the Everton net to put the game out of reach for Chris Roberts' side.

Everton face Tottenham Hotspur next in the WSL on Sunday 1 May for their final home match of the 2021/22 campaign.
