Roberts: Leave Everything Out There

Chris Roberts says Everton Women must be bold and take the fight to Chelsea on Wednesday evening in order to gain a positive result against the reigning Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions.

The Blues host the West London side at Walton Hall Park at 7pm (GMT), looking to continue their fine form, having won their previous three games in all competitions.

But interim boss Roberts is well aware his players must up their performance levels again against Emma Hayes' title-chasing side.

“We need to give everything,” Roberts said in his pre-match press conference.

“We’re going to be playing against one of the best teams in the world.

“While that is very exciting, we have to be very prepared and focussed.

“We need to make sure we do our job well individually so the collective unit of the team can stand up to what will be a very difficult task.

“Of course, against the top teams you need a bit of luck as well, so we hope we’ll have that in our favour as well.”

The game signals the beginning of a hectic 12 days for Everton Women, with back-to-back clashes against Manchester City and a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United scheduled before the end of the month.

And Roberts insists every player in the squad will be needed in order to make a success of the busy period.

“We have good, experienced players in the dressing room,” he continued.

“We have one of the toughest periods coming up that certainly I have experienced in this league.

“We need to rely on every player to get us through what will be a challenging period that we are excited for, but we’re aware of how difficult it’s going to be.”

While acknowledging the games ahead, Roberts insists he will not be prioritising Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup quarter-final against City.

“For us, it’s always been the next game is the most important game,” the Scot added.

“You can’t rest players against a team like Chelsea to prepare you for an FA Cup game.

“Yes, there might be some squad rotation throughout the game, but never a sense of prioritising one game over another.

“You can’t go into games against top teams like Chelsea with anything other than everything to try and win the game.”
