Roberts On Leicester Test And 'Embracing' Pressure

Everton Women caretaker manager Chris Roberts believes his side have thrived under pressure in recent weeks as they look to continue their winning form against Leicester City at Walton Hall Park on Saturday (5.30pm GMT).

The Blues enjoyed hard-fought victories in back-to-back away trips at Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa and will hope to maintain that momentum against a Leicester side who have also enjoyed some positive results since the turn of the year.

And while Everton have beaten the Foxes twice so far this season, Roberts is expecting Lydia Bedford's team to provide a tough examination.

“The two wins helps the atmosphere within the camp a lot,” the Scot told the media in his pre-match press conference.

“To see the resilience of the team in what has been a difficult year was really pleasing.

“We know it’s going to be very tough against Leicester.

“They have been very impressive since Lydia [Bedford] has came in.

“We know it’ll be a challenge but we hope to build on the two wins that we have had and the two clean sheets as well.

That winning feeling is addictive and we want more of it.

“Getting a third win on the trot is our aim for this weekend but we know it’s going to be difficult.”

When asked if the Blues head into Saturday evening’s encounter as favourites, Roberts insisted that there are no easy games in this league but that his squad “embrace” the pressure placed on them.

“From our perspective, we feel a good amount of pressure in every game,” he added.

"We try to embrace it. We’re in one of the best leagues in the world and every team is difficult to play against.

“We will be natural pressure on ourselves to get a result this weekend, as I’m sure Leicester will do as well.

“We try to thrive on that pressure and not shy away from it and this weekend will be no different.”

ROBERTS ON LEICESTER CITY VISIT

Everton Women interim manager Chris Roberts spoke to the media ahead of Saturday's match against Leicester City in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

While Roberts admitted Everton have fell short of achieving their ambitions this season, he says his team will give everything until the end of the campaign to move up the WSL table..

“Every game and every point is important to us,” the Toffees boss said.

“As a squad, we feel that we aren’t in a position that we wanted to be at this stage of the year.

“Regardless of where we can finish this season, every single point means a lot to us because we are determined to get as high in the league table as possible.

“We want to bring as much pride back to our performances as possible and give our incredible group of fans something to cheer about in each game."
