I wasn't that into football at the time but in 1966, I sat down to watch the FA Cup final with my late brother, John, a die-hard Blue.

Of course, Everton were playing Sheffield Wednesday and they went 2-0 down just before the hour.

John disappeared, crying in the back.

But I stayed and watched.

"John, we've scored! Trebilcock has scored!" I shouted...

He came flying in and no sooner had he sat down than Trebilcock had done it again to make it two each. He jumped up, punched the air and smashed the chandelier into a thousand pieces in the process.

We barely noticed at the time, though. We were glued to the screen.

Then, Derek Temple got the winner. I've never heard a roar like it before or since.

Everyone on our street must have heard our John that day.

The magic of the FA Cup.

That was the day Everton got me.
