Björn: Results Will Come With Team Unity

Everton defender Nathalie Björn is convinced the unity within the Blues camp will be key to bringing positive results in the remainder of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

Led by interim manager Chris Roberts, Everton impressed against in-form Reading on Sunday and led the contest for 69 minutes before two late strikes denied the hosts a deserved reward.

Sweden international Björn was left bitterly disappointed by the final whistle but insisted the squad need to remain united and positive.

“We are very, very disappointed,” Björn told evertontv.

“I feel quite empty, and I feel I speak for the whole team because I thought we played really well in the first half.

“In the second half we invited them into the game and to lose out with a late goal is really disappointing.

“We of course wanted to win on Sunday, as we did every game this year.

“It’s been a tough season for us, but it feels like we are building again.

“I think with time we are going to play really well and win games.”

Fellow Swede Anna Anvegård gave Everton the lead in the opening five minutes, providing Everton with an early confidence boost.

The 24-year-old stated the Toffees must continue to start games on the front foot and is targeting maximum points when Aston Villa travel to Walton Hall Park this weekend.

“This week has been quite a ride for us, but I feel it’s just made us stronger as a group," she added.

“In the first half, we showed that we are a good team and can play really well.

“We just need to keep believing in ourselves.

“It’s good that we are capable of scoring early goals, but it’s important to then keep it tight at the back so we’re not letting goals in.

“We need to go into next weekend against Aston Villa and not settle for anything except those three points.”
