Sunday afternoon was a proud moment for the Weir family as Kenzie Weir followed in the footsteps of her father and made her first senior appearance for Everton.
The 18-year-old defender came onto replace Izzy Christiansen for the final stages of a 4-0 FA Cup win at Huddersfield Town, almost 23 years on since dad David Weir made his first appearance for the Toffees.
With a smile beaming on her face, the defender revealed her gratitude after making her First Team debut.
“It was unbelievable, I can’t really describe it,” she told evertontv.
“I’ve been working towards this moment for my whole time at Everton.
“I'd like to say thanks to all my coaches – Tommy Walsh [Women's Academy manager], and everyone else at the Academy.

Kenzie was delighted she could share this moment with her family.
“They were buzzing!” she added. “They were just so happy to see me come on.
“My brothers couldn’t make it, unfortunately, but my grandpa will be buzzing as well.”

Kenzie joined up with the senior squad during pre-season, and now hopes to be a regular member of the First Team group.
“It is a different level but it’s unbelievable to train with them," she added
“I’ve trained with the them quite a lot now, so hopefully I can make that step up and play with those top class players every week. That’s my goal.
“We’ll see how this week goes and then hopefully I'll be in the squad for Sunday's match against Reading.”
