Christiansen: We All Want Everton To Succeed

Izzy Christiansen insists Everton Women will give everything to turn things around and climb FA Barclays FA Women's Super League table.

The Blues returned to action for the first time in five weeks on Sunday but fell to defeat on the road as hosts West Ham United ran out 3-0 winners.

Jean-Luc Vasseur's side's frustration was compounded when, following a positive start and striking the woodwork twice, the Toffees conceded goals either side of the half-time interval.

However, speaking after the match, midfielder Christiansen believes there is a determination within the squad to put things right.

“We’re a really good group," the England international told evertontv. “Everyone is working really hard and we're determined to turn it around.

“Everyone is on their own individual journey; we all want to succeed and want Everton to do well.

“We all have that in common, but we’re just in a difficult moment.

HIGHLIGHTS: WEST HAM UNITED 3-0 EVERTON WOMEN

Everton Women travelled to London to face West Ham United in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

“With the time off, it’s been difficult to galvanise ourselves and get back into it.

“Now, it’s about putting this game behind us and looking forward.”

After an impressive opening period, Christiansen believes the Blues must work on converting their dominance into goals in order to improve their form.

“I thought we did a lot in the game in the first half that was positive," she contined.

“We created chances, we should have had a penalty.

“A few decisions went against us, but you’ve got to keep going.

“We did really well in the first half so to concede quite late on isn’t great, but we’re still in the game.

“At 2-0, it becomes more difficult.

“This was a fixture that we wanted to come and win.

“Perhaps they have benefited with being up and running in January and we haven’t.

“We’ve had minimal numbers in training so to get ourselves up to an intense level for a matchday is difficult, but it is by no means an excuse.

“There’s still ways to do it and I think the girls have trained really well over the last few weeks.

“It’s won and lost on the field and we were second best on Sunday, we didn’t capitalise on that first half performance.”

Looking ahead, Christiansen believes she and her teammates must continue to give their maximum in order to change fortunes.

“You don’t want to rely on luck because you create it," she added.

“We’ve been unlucky not to put away our chances.

“You create your own luck in football and when things aren’t going your way you have got to keep pushing.

“Those moments will come, but we need to keep working.

“We are really, really disappointed and we need to find a way to pick ourselves back up.”
