Tyrer Targeting 'Extra Special' Merseyside Derby Win

Everton Under-23s goalkeeper Harry Tyrer is looking to cap a dream week with a win in the Merseyside mini-derby this weekend.

The boyhood Evertonian, who joined the Club's Academy aged seven, signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal on Tuesday to extend his stay until June 2025.

Now all attentions have turned to a crunch game for David Unsworth's side, with a trip to Liverpool's Academy in Kirkby on Saturday (2pm GMT).

"This has always been a huge game for me," Tyrer told evertonfc.com. "It’s a huge rivalry and, with me being a boyhood Evertonian, it’s extra special.

"I’ve always liked playing Liverpool as I know they will be a good team and it will be a good test.

"As an Everton fan, it’s a game I’m desperate to win. I’m desperate to win every game, but especially this one."

HIGHLIGHTS: EVERTON U23S 2-2 CRYSTAL PALACE U23S

Stanley Mills continued his fine form in front of goal and Isaac Price also netted as David Unsworth's Blues were held to a 2-2 draw in Southport.

After an inconsistent start to the 2021/22 campaign, the Under-23s head into the Premier League 2 clash high on confidence following a run of five games unbeaten in all competitions.

"We struggled at the start at the season but I feel we’ve come together as a group," added Tyrer. "We know our strengths and weaknesses and have worked those out.

"I feel we’ve added to our strengths and we’re confident going into the mini derby on Saturday.

"I think it just took a little bit of time for the younger lads coming up to get used to the fast pace of the game, in terms of the physicality of the Under-23s.

"Now we’ve good a good balance with youth a bit of experience. I think we can continue to improve and go up the table this season."
