Everton Boss Gives Team News Update

Rafa Benitez has confirmed Tom Davies is the only injury absentee for Everton ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich City (3pm GMT) – but says the Blues must “treat carefully” the players who have returned to training this week after spells on the sidelines.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has resumed full training after missing last weekend’s 3-2 FA Cup victory over Hull City as a precaution following a four-month layoff with a quadriceps injury.

Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Jarrad Branthwaite and Fabian Delph have also been able to take part in sessions at USM Finch Farm, and the Everton boss confirmed the match readiness of those players will be assessed ahead of the Carrow Road clash.

Benitez added he expects midfielder Davies to be out for “one or two months” after undergoing successful surgery on an injured hamstring earlier this week.

Anwar El Ghazi is in contention to make his Everton debut after completing his loan move from Aston Villa on Tuesday, while Alex Iwobi is away on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The manager added that one player may miss the match with COVID-19.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference at USM Finch Farm, Benitez said: "All of the players were training yesterday [Thursday], so at the moment the only one not available through injury is just Tom Davies. He had his operation.

"All the others were training and now we have to treat them carefully. At the moment they are fine, then it is up to us to see who can be available for his game or the next games.

"We are quite confident we have people coming back…but they are still not fully fit. It is important to understand match fitness comes with games."

On the timeframe for Davies’ rehabilitation, Benitez added:  “It is difficult to say. With these type of things, you are expecting more than one month…it [how long he is out for] has to be decided by the surgeon and after the physio.

“But I am sure he will be out for one or two months."
