El Ghazi Makes Vow To Evertonians

Anwar El Ghazi has vowed to “give everything I have” for Evertonians after completing his loan move from Aston Villa, as he set out his ambition to provide regular goals and assists to help propel the Blues up the Premier League table.

Dutch international El Ghazi will spend the rest of the campaign with Everton and is eligible to make his Toffees debut in Saturday’s clash with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The 26-year-old underlined his ability to deliver decisive contributions on the biggest stage last season, when he scored 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances (17 starts).

His tally included goals in both of Villa’s matches against European champions Chelsea and an expertly-taken late winner in a 2-1 victory at Goodison Park.

El Ghazi says he is now savouring the prospect of experiencing the backing of Everton supporters at Goodison and on the road – and he believes his whole-hearted approach will resonate with the Blues’ passionate fanbase.

“I will work hard and give everything I have,” he told evertontv. “That is the least you can expect from a player.

“That is what I will start with and from there hopefully I will be able to score goals and give assists.

“If you do those things, then you will get a lot of happy faces around the Club from fans.

“I feel can be a lot of value with my pace and technique going forward. I can hold the ball and I am decent in one-on-ones. I can always score a goal in an important moment.

“I have already met a few fans and it’s great to see how people live for the Club and it’s basically their religion.

“You just want to give it your all and show them what you can do.

“I’ve played at Goodison a few times now and it’s a beautiful stadium. It’s a bit different than other stadiums and that’s why it makes it unique. I’m really looking forward to playing there.”

Former Ajax player El Ghazi will be part of an exciting group of wingers at Everton manager Rafa Benitez’s disposal.

The Blues added Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend to their ranks during the summer transfer, while Academy graduate Anthony Gordon is in electric form and Brazil forward Richarlison is closing on a return to fitness.

El Ghazi believes such intense competition for a starting spot will only serve to elevate performances levels within the squad.

“I think the wingers we have got are real quality and I hope I can compete with them,” he said.

“A little bit of competition is always good.

“I just want to focus on working hard first, getting into the team, fighting for my place and with the boys to get Everton where it belongs – that is much higher up the table.”

El Ghazi’s immediate attention is now on Saturday’s Premier League contest at Norwich, with the forward hungry to quicky prove his worth at Everton.

“Everything is done now [with the loan move] and I can focus on football,” he added.

“That is the main thing. I am really looking forward to it.

“I want to show my quality to my teammates, to the Club and, of course, the fans. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
