Iwobi's Nigeria Off To Winning Start

Alex Iwobi's Nigeria got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a winning start with a deserved 1-0 victory over Egypt.

The Everton forward was introduced in the final minutes of a dominant win for his nation's opening match in Group D against an Egyptian side who failed to create more than a handful of chances across the 90 minutes.

Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho scored the decisive goal for the Super Eagles with a powerful strike on the edge of the box that comfortably beat Egyptian goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy on the half hour mark.

Nigeria continued to grow in confidence as the match progressed and arguably deserved to be in front by a couple more goals.

However, the nature of their performance will give Nigeria plenty of confidence heading into their next match of the group as they face Sudan on Saturday 15 January.
