What The Papers Say - 6 January

Transfer speculation continues to mount in the early stages of the January transfer window, and while Everton have already secured two signings, reports claim there is still plenty of business to be done.

Sky Sports reports the Blues have submitted a bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The Englishman has been linked with a move to Merseyside since the arrival of Rafa Benitez, with the pair working together during his stint as boss of the Magpies.

However, a conflicting report suggests the North East side has submitted a bid of their own for left-back Lucas Digne, with £22.5million plus Longstaff put forward in a cash and swap deal.

Another rumoured midfield target linked with a move to Goodison Park is Bruno Guimaraes.

The Evening Standard claims Everton have joined the race to sign Lyon star but face competition from Arsenal and Newcastle United for his signature.

While no bid is believed to have been made at this stage, it is reported that the French side would expect a fee up to £40million for the 24-year-old.

Finally, Corriere dello Sport of Italy states AC Milan could make a move for Toffees defender Yerry Mina.

It is said Sven Botman from Lille remains the Italian side's number one defensive target this window, however, should a deal fail to materialise they would turn their attention to the Columbian centre-back.
