Piquionne: We Need To Keep Pushing

Everton Women assistant manager Frédéric Piquionne has challenged the Blues to build their momentum following a well-earned win against Durham last weekend.

The Frenchman took charge of the side, alongside Claire Ditchburn, on Sunday, with manager Jean-Luc Vasseur forced to self-isolate after coming into contact with a member of the public who tested positive for COVID-19.

In his absence, Toni Duggan reopened her Everton account following a summer return to the Club, as the Toffees took an important step in reaching the knockout phase of the Continental Cup.

With Vasseur expected to return later this week, Piquionne hopes the team can continue their hard work on the training ground.

“It was a really good performance against Durham,” he told evertontv.

“I think in the first half we need to control the game better as well as the second half.

“When we scored, you saw how the game opened up.

“Normally, we have to score more.

“We need to push the girls this week.

“Keep moving. Keep trying. Keep working hard.

“It was a strange situation for us against Durham without our manager there.

“We are all together.

“We had to keep our mind on the game.

“We have three games left this year and we need to win them all.”

The next test for Everton is a visit from West Ham United, a former club of Piquionne.

Now part of the managerial set up in the women’s game, the 42-year-old is looking for an improved performance against their London opponents.

“I’m looking forward to the game, of course,” he added.

“I played at West Ham for three years.

“Now, I’m with Everton and I’m looking for the best performance of the team against West Ham.

“I’m looking for 150 per cent from Everton.

“We need to build this team again.

“To get the girls to understand what we need and what we want from them on the pitch.

“I saw that from the players against Durham.

“Things that we worked on during the week, I saw play out against Durham.

“We need to keep pushing."
