Magill: It’s Like Déjà Vu

Simone Magill claimed she had a feeling of déjà vu as the Everton Women striker found the back of the net for a second week running.

The Northern Ireland international came off the bench last week against Manchester United and again on Sunday away to Leicester City to find the back of the net.

The 27-year-old was happy to contribute as a substitute but stressed that Sunday’s win was down to the hard-work collectively as a team.

“I’m delighted,” she told evertontv. “You always want to make an impact when you come off the bench.

“I did that last week and it’s déjà vu, I’ve done it again.

“It’s a credit to the team.

“We really dug in today.

“I put the ball into the back of the net but the work into the goal was a real team effort.

“I’m just delighted that we managed to get the win today.”

Newly promoted Leicester City’s wait for a point in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League continues after suffering defeat in their opening eight matches.

Magill knew how desperate the hosts would have been to get points on the board and believes it’s a credit to Everton for overcoming that challenge.

“We knew coming here wasn’t going to be easy, it was a tough game,” the long-serving Blue added.

“They made it really hard for us.

“The game could have gone either way at a point.

“I think it’s credit to us that we really held together.

“It was a real team effort, and we got the win which is the most important thing.”

Magill’s strike secured manager Jean-Luc Vasseur’s first win in the league as the strong defensive performance secured a second clean sheet for the season.

Both of which are to the delight of Magill and her teammates.

“It’s exactly what we needed, especially going into the international break.

“We want to start climbing back up the table.

“Every point counts and to get all three and a clean sheet is exactly what we wanted to do today.”
