Vasseur’s Recipe For Success

Jean-Luc Vasseur believes he has all the ingredients he needs to make Everton Women a success as he seeks his first win in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this weekend.

The Blues travel to face Leicester City on Sunday, the side that Vasseur guided his team to a 3-1 Continental Cup win against in his first game in charge.

Now, after having a number of weeks to work with his players, the Frenchman is convinced he has the raw materials at his disposal to produce the positive results.

You can imagine that I’m in my kitchen and there’s a lot of ingredients in front of me,” Vasseur explained in his press conference.

“We need to find the right recipe to bring it all together every weekend.

“When there’s a lot of talent in the squad it is nice, but we need to look at the details to find a team that is balanced and efficient.

“At this moment, I am happy because I have this recipe and I don’t need to go buy other ingredients.

“Perhaps in the future [I will buy more] but for now I need to cook with these ingredients and find the right recipe.”

Everton picked up their first-ever WSL point against Manchester United last weekend - and Vasseur’s first in the English top-flight.

He praised his side’s resilience to come from behind and produce a great performance and now hopes his players can build on their momentum when they take on the Foxes.

“It was important for us to break the negative momentum against the Manchester clubs,” he said.

“We had a run of defeats against these sides in the league so it was good to get a point and we finished the game better.

“It was good for the confidence for my team.

“There is a resilience about this team.

VASSEUR SPEAKS TO MEDIA AHEAD OF LEICESTER TRIP

Jean-Luc Vasseur spoke to the press as Everton Women prepare to travel to face Leicester City this weekend in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

“It would have been easy for the confidence to drop after going a goal down early on.

“I liked the reaction from my team, we finished stronger and perhaps we deserved to win.”

Leicester are yet to pick up points this season since their promotion from the Championship, losing all of their opening seven league matches.

But Vasseur knows that the Championship champions will be desperate to get off the mark and stressed there will be no complacency within the Everton camp.

“It is never right to see a game as easy, to not respect the opponent," he added.

“Never have this state of mind.

“You can get yourself into a dangerous situation if you think like this.

“We give the opponent a lot of respect and find a good way to reveal the weakness of their team but never to play easy.

“They are suffering from some bad momentum at the moment, and they will want to put a stop to that.

“However, I don’t want that to happen against Everton so we go there on Sunday with a lot of respect and preparation.

“We go there to win but I know it will be difficult.

“Even though we won there a few weeks ago, we need to stay vigilant.

“We have to be focused and determined.

“We have the talent to win again but every player must be focused on the plan to complete the mission.”
