Vasseur ‘Proud’ Of Blues After United Draw

Jean-Luc Vasseur was ‘proud’ of his Everton side after they earned the manager’s first point in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.

Simone Magill came off the bench to equalise for the Toffees and cancel out Ella Toone’s first-half opener.

Vasseur became the first Everton manager in the WSL era to pick up a point against Manchester United but he admitted he wanted more from the clash at Walton Hall Park.

“I’m very proud of my team,” he told evertontv. “They showed a good state of mind of never giving up because it’s not easy.

“We conceded early on but we improved as the game went on and scored in the second half, so a draw isn’t a bad result.

“I always play to win but it is a good point.

HIGHLIGHTS: EVERTON WOMEN 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED WOMEN

Everton Women picked up a well-earned point as the Blues drew with Manchester United Women in the Barclays FA Women's Super League at Walton Hall Park.

“It puts an end to our bad momentum in the league and now we can begin to build some good momentum going forward.

“I like my team to play like they did on Sunday so hopefully we can continue this in the next games.”

Long-serving Blues forward Magill was delighted to help her side pick up a point but stressed the team must build upon the confidence gained from the performance.

“We’re at the start of a new journey and we need to continue building on that week on week,” the goalscorer told evertonfc.com.

“We dug deep on Sunday and got a point.

“That’s what it’s all about, getting points on the board.

“We take the positives from Sunday and take it into Leicester City this weekend.”

Everton now travel to Leicester City to take on the WSL's bottom side on Sunday (2pm GMT). It will be the second time the Blues have faced the Foxes after Vasseur registered his first win as the Club's manager in the Continental Cup on 3 November.

The Frenchman hopes his side can recreate the level of performance seen against United but knows the Championship champions will pose a tough test.

“I hope we can replicate the level of performance against Leicester, but every game is different,” he added.

“We are going to prepare very seriously, and we have another week to get ourselves ready for the match.

“We have to reflect on what we did against United as there were things we did better and other areas we can still improve upon.

“There is still a lot of work to do.”
