Anthony Gordon's England Under-21s debut could not have got off to a better start.

The Everton youngster found the back of the net twice early in the first half as the young Three Lions recorded a vital 3-1 victory over Czech Republic in a European Championships qualifier at Turf Moor.

Despite claims that the first was an own goal, Gordon was adamant that both were his own in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

"The first one went down as an own goal? No way! I am claiming that all the way,” Gordon told the broadcaster.

“The second one was clear. Conor did really well and I just had to tap it in. Easy.

"It was a really good game. I was happy to score and I thought we started really well then eased off in the game.

“The last two games have been difficult so we wanted to make sure this one was right and I thought we managed the game really well. They are a good team, but we stuck together and dug in.”

In transfer news, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Everton will have to pay in the region of £22million if they are to acquire the services of Lille winger Jonathon Ikone.

The Ligue 1 winning star will not extend his current deal with the French side, according to their source.

The 23-year-old has played 18 games this season and bagged two goals.

His deal with Lille runs until the summer of 2023.

Finally, Ellis Simms has been linked with a move back to Blackpool by the Liverpool Echo.

The 20-year-old scored 10 goals for the Seasiders in a loan spell in the second half of last season.

A deal in the new year is believed to be another loan spell.
