What The Papers Say - 9 November

Michael Ball uses his column in Tuesday's edition of the Liverpool Echo to dissect the goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Everton left-back claims there were no grounds to overturn the decision to award the Blues a penalty after Richarlison was brought down by Hugo Lloris in the second half.

He said: “The decision to overturn Everton’s penalty against Tottenham Hotspur summed up the performance of the match officials for me, and we could have done with a bit more luck from them.

“If the referee hadn’t blown, then Richarlison could have scored, or we might have had another opportunity, and then we could have gone to VAR to check the incident.

“The referee got that massively wrong by blowing up so early, giving them the penalty and then changing his mind.

“This incident for me wasn’t a clear and obvious error.”

Elsewhere in the local newspaper, Dan Meis speaks of his delight at officially rejoining the Club's project to build a new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock, following a visit to Merseyside at the weekend.

Anthony Gordon features on LancsLive, describing his spell with Preston North End last season as a "bad loan" but the forward also believes the overall experience has "benefitted me massively".

Similarly, in the Sunderland Echo, Nathan Broadhead has been discussing his temporary stay with the Black Cats.

"I want to feel pressure," said the Wales Under-21 international. "I want to feel the lows and the highs as a football player so you have to expect that at this club.

“I want to experience everything in football.”
