Sevecke: We Need To Be More Clinical

Denmark international Rikke Sevecke believes Everton need to be more clinical after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Brighton in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The visitors struck through Aileen Whelan just after hour mark, a strike that proved decisive on a wet and windy evening at Walton Hall Park.

Despite the loss, defender Sevecke says the squad remains confident in their quality - but insists they must be more ruthless at both ends of the pitch if they are to challenge at the top of the table.

“The English league is always difficult and every team is very good so you never know what the outcome is going to be,” the 25-year-old told evertonfc.com.

“Obviously, we wanted to win the game against Brighton but they drew the long straw so it’s disappointing.

“I felt like we had a good control of the ball and the play of the game.

“We had a lot of possession and created good chances.

“The team could have scored in the first half and at the beginning of the second half.

“We could have got the lead before them and then it would have been a completely different game.

“Now, we just need to be more clinical in those chances and in our own box as well with our defending so they can’t score.”

It was Everton’s first match on home soil since the 3-1 win over Birmingham City back in late September.

The Blues now look ahead to four games in the lead up to the winter break with Manchester United the next visitors at Walton Hall Park on Sunday 14 November (12.30pm kick-off).

“We want to win the game against Manchester United like we do any game,” added Sevecke.

“We need to bounce back and give everything we have got for the next game.”
