Metcalfe On Target As Under-18s Held To Draw

Everton Under-18s were forced to settle for a point on Saturday as Paul Tait's side drew 1-1 with Blackburn Under-18s.

Across the 90 minutes, the young Blues were excellent against a Blackburn side who are top of the Under-18s Premier League.

Over the park there were excellent performances including the midfield three of Luke Butterfield, Halid Djankpata and Jenson Metcalfe.

Tait's side started well, controlling the game, however, they were met with an early setback as Junior Ngangou struck a loose ball to give the visitors the lead.

Nevertheless, Everton remained confident and took the game to the league leaders and caused various problems.

Into the second half and that momentum only grew as the under-18s got their just reward when Metcalfe fired home an equaliser.

Tait's side began the play from the back and progressed up the park.

Owen Barker played a back heel into the path of Metcalfe who tucked the ball away perfectly into the top corner to level the match.

Chasing a winner the Blues kept attacking the visitors backline and in the final moments there was a penalty shout from the hosts.

However, the referee signalled to play on as Everton were denied a goal-scoring opportunity from the penalty spot.

An excellent performance from the young Blues who deserved more than a point but will build upon the positives taken from the draw to Blackburn.
