Everton can confirm the appointment of Cristian Fernandez as First-Team Rehabilitation Fitness Coach - a move Rafa Benitez says will provide an additional strand of expertise in the Club’s medical department.

Fernandez is reuniting with Benitez following the pair’s time together at Newcastle United.

Fernandez spent more than five years at St James’ Park after originally linking up with Benitez in summer 2016 and remaining with Newcastle following the manager’s departure three years later.

He previously had two years as Rehab Fitness Coach at Hull City, where Fernandez moved in June 2014 following seven months in his first English post as Rehabilitation Coach in Northampton Town’s Sport Science and Medical Department.

“We are happy to welcome Cristian to our medical department,” said Everton boss Benitez.

“I knew about him when he was at Hull, then he joined us at Newcastle United and did a great job.

“He is someone who can help with the rehabilitation of players, a nice lad and an excellent professional.

“Cristian is a specialist in this area and I am sure he will be very helpful for the team.”
