LISTEN: Southall Remembers His Everton Debut 40 Years Ago Today

On this day 40 years ago, Neville Southall made the first of his 751 appearances for his beloved club Everton.

The legendary goalkeeper was named in the starting XI for the Blues' 2-1 win against Ipswich Town at Goodison Park on 17 October 1981.

It was the start of a glorious chapter for one of the finest goalkeepers the world has ever seen, who went on to win two league titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in a 17-year career with Everton.

Darren Griffiths caught up with Southall to look back on his maiden Blues game in an insightful audio interview.
