Everton manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be missing for “two or three weeks” with a quadriceps injury.

The striker, therefore, will be unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Aston Villa (5.30pm).

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Benitez added Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez is “training normally with the team” and that his match fitness continues to be assessed.

Fabian Delph is also expected to be sidelined for Saturday’s game with a shoulder problem. Benitez did not provide an update on the midfielder's condition but said ahead of Monday’s 3-1 victory over Burnley that his injury “is maybe the longest we have”.

When asked when Calvert-Lewin may be able to return, Benitez said: “Still, we have to wait for some weeks. We don’t know exactly how many, but he will not be available for two or three weeks.”

On James, the Everton boss explained: “He is training. And these kind of weeks – when you play a game and have a day off in between – it is not easy to see [how fit he is].

“We will see how he is tomorrow [Friday] in another training session but he is training normally with the team. We will decide tomorrow how he is doing.”
