Monday’s edition of The Guardian features quotes from Everton manager Rafa Benitez, who has revealed his satisfaction with how his players have responded to his tactical instructions and training methods.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Goodison Park, Benitez said: “We are working really hard to improve the players, improve every individual player and the team. The fans know and appreciate that.

“They know how the team finished last year and can see the difference in commitment and style of football.”

Quotes from the Blues boss are also included in the Liverpool Echo, with the Spaniard explaining what he expects to see from James Rodriguez upon his return to full fitness.

"We know his strengths," Benitez said. "He's a player with a really good left foot. We know the weaknesses that he has too. He has to show his strengths on the pitch and at the same time improve his weaknesses.

"I don't expect him to change his style, but we need to find a balance between what he can give to the team and what we are expecting from him.”

The Glasgow Evening Times claims Everton continue to hold an interest in signing Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson.

The paper suggests a bid of £10million could be enough to bring the 19-year-old to Goodison.

Back to the Echo and Everton Women manager Willie Kirk insists the Blues are still targeting a top-three finish despite defeats in their opening two WSL matches of the season.

The Toffees were beaten 4-0 at league champions Chelsea on Sunday, having lost to Manchester City on the opening day of the campaign.

“We've now got 60 points to play for, and we need to start picking them up very, very quickly,” Kirk said.

"With the players we have, the target still has to be top three, and I firmly believe that we'll see significant improvements after the international break.”
