Benitez On Key To Blues' Fast Start

Everton manager Rafa Benitez is confident his side has made the first steps of development following an unbeaten opening to the season.

The Blues head into the international break with a record of three wins and a draw, including the Carabao Cup success at Huddersfield, with three of those games on the road.

Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired Everton to a 2-0 win away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday to round off a positive month.

Following their latest win, Benitez spoke of the shift of mentality with his players and the confidence they carry into each fixture.

"I think the team has more belief," he told evertontv. "Over 90 minutes, we know what we have to do.

"Sometimes we make mistakes and we can improve but against Brighton we just have to analyse the positives.

"There are many things that we are doing well and I'm happy with that."

One of the many plus points from Saturday's win was the performance of Gray who has hit the ground running as an Everton player.

The English winger, who joined in July from Bayer Leverkusen, has contributed two goals in his past two outings in the Premier League.

Benitez has been delighted with his contribution so far but kept his cards close to his chest when discussing the numbers he wants his new addition to hit.

"Demarai knows my target for him but I'll leave that with him," Benitez added.

"It's not just about the goals from the strikers but the contribution they give to the team.

"Richarlison and him were working so hard to try to manage the attack of our opponent in the way they wanted to play the game and they did well."

BENITEZ CHEERED BY CONVINCING BRIGHTON WIN

Manager reflects on Blues away-day success.

The praise from Benitez extended to the rest of the team for their contribution over the weekend.

"You analyse the two midfielders and their work rate was amazing," the Blues boss added.

"The centre-backs got a clean sheet so it's a positive for everyone.

"The defenders, they were under a little bit of pressure.

"They are happier now as well as the midfielders and the strikers because we scored two goals."

Benitez has spent two months with the team so far and highlighted one of the reasons for his early success as Everton manager.

"One of the keys is the mentality, the motivation of the players.

"They decide to do well and after we have to praise our staff because the way that they are running means the training sessions are fine and the players are professionals and they take care of them.

"We can still improve but there are a lot of positives."
