Everton Duo Receive England Under-20 Calls

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite could be poised for an England Under-20 debut, while Anthony Gordon is in line to win a second cap, after both players were included in a 23-man squad to face Romania next month.

Centre-half Branthwaite, 19, who started Tuesday's Carabao Cup victory at Huddersfield Town, joined Everton from League Two Carlisle United in January last year and has made six senior appearances for the Club.

Goodison Park Academy graduate Gordon, capped on multiple occasions at Under-18 and Under-19 level, made an Under-20 debut in a friendly victory over Wales 11 months ago.

He has played 21 games for Everton and was handed a first senior start in a Merseyside derby draw at Goodison in June 2020.

England Under-20s, under the charge of head coach Andy Edwards for first first time, host Romania at St. George's Park on Monday 6 September, the game kicking off at 2pm.

Reece Welch, meanwhile, is named in a 23-man Under-19 party for an attractive pair of friendlies early in September.

The defender, who figured in two senior Everton squads last term, has represented England at Under-16 level.

He could gain honours for the older age-group team in games against Italy at St. George’s Park on Thursday 2 September and away in Germany four days later on Monday 6 September.
