Gray Sets Target After Electric Display

Demarai Gray set out his hunger to continue delivering vital contributions for Everton after marking an electric display at Leeds United with his maiden Blues goal.

Gray’s searing pace, skilful dribbling and intelligent movement impressed throughout a breathless clash at Elland Road.

The standout moment of his performance came five minutes after half-time when he rifled a precision left-footed strike past Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier to put Everton 2-1 ahead.

Raphinha's 72nd-minute equaliser ultimately meant the points were shared, however. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had put the Blues ahead from the penalty spot before Mateusz Klich levelled for the home team.

Summer signing Gary credited boss Rafael Benitez’s tactics and man-management for inspiring a sparkling start to his Everton career.

“I am working well with the manager, and I feel like I have integrated into the team and the system very well,” he said.

“For me, that’s the focus. I want to be a threat up top and hopefully put more goals in.

“Personally, it is important (to have a good start).”

HIGHLIGHTS: LEEDS UNITED 2-2 EVERTON

Calvert-Lewin and Gray on target in pulsating draw.

On his joyous celebration in front Everton’s passionate away following, Gray added: “I went flying to be fair – I think I did a front flip!

“I am just delighted to get off the mark, help the team and score in front of the away fans.”

A high-octane clash saw both teams aim 17 shots on goal, with Everton having double Leeds’ efforts on target (8-4).

The Blues were firmly in the ascendancy after Gray’s strike – with the forward at the heart of a string of purposeful attacks – but the Toffees' potentially decisive third goal proved elusive.

“Against a team like Leeds, you have got to try to bury them, to kill the game off,” he added.

“I think, overall. we could’ve taken more out of the game.

“Leeds are always going to apply the pressure with their fans right behind them. They got their equaliser and, in the end, we have to take the point.”
